I can stand on my head.

As with many yogis, I can stand on my head.

I learned with practice. Being patient with myself. Believing in myself. And having fun with the process. Within a few classes it just clicked. I was able to stand on my head! Granted I immediate fell out of the pose, but the point is I did it – and since have only progressed with my form and my ability to hold the pose longer.

For those of you who aren’t sure what head stand looks like, here’s a little more information from Yoga Journal.

So, why am I sharing the process of how I learned to stand on my head in yoga? Because for some reason I’ve lately been guilty of beating myself up for not being able to do new things perfectly on my first go. One of the best lessons I’ve learned with my yoga practice is that it’s okay to fall. In fact, a teacher said in one of my classes:

“If you don’t fall, you’ll never find your edge. If you don’t find your edge, you’ll never know how far you can go.”

The quote really spoke to me. Right after class I dug through my purse for a pen and paper to jot it down.

Yoga pose or not, I’ve set an intent to be proud of the progress I make. Regardless. Learning is a process. Just as life is a practice. We’re going to fall. And it’s important to get back up and try again. Eventually we will all stand on our heads.

Namaste.

  1. Thanks for the reminder and the email, Megan! We did peacock in class the other day, and 9 out of 10 of us have rug burns on our faces, but 10 out of 10 of us laughed our heads off trying. Come back for a visit anytime!
    Namaste!
